How It Started
I was 55 years old when I scheduled my first annual physical. For more than 30 years, my life had revolved around work—and nothing else. I wasn’t taking care of myself, and I felt terrible.
When I sat down with my doctor, she asked what I wanted her to do. I told her I wasn’t sure, but that I knew something was wrong. After running tests, she looked me straight in the eye and said, “You smoke three packs a day, you drink regularly, and at 5’6” and 240 pounds, you’re morbidly obese. Your bloodwork is terrible—you’re pre-diabetic, borderline Type 2. What did you expect at 55 years old?”
That hit me hard.
She asked what I wanted to do about it. I didn’t have an answer. She suggested I start by quitting smoking. I agreed. Twelve weeks later, I was completely smoke-free—and I’ve never gone back. This year marks 11 years as a non-smoker.
A year later, my doctor said it was time to focus on losing weight. I had actually gained another 10 pounds and asked, “How?” She recommended I look into the Mediterranean diet. I started learning about nutrition and gradually began losing weight. The more I researched, the more I realized exercise had to be part of the equation—but I had no idea where to begin. Online information was confusing, and finding someone trustworthy felt impossible.
I kept pushing forward anyway. Over the next couple of years, I lost 70 pounds. Along the way, I discovered a passion for fitness, nutrition, and helping others reclaim their health—just like I did. That passion led me to become certified through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) as a Personal Trainer and Weight Loss Specialist, and later as a MedFit Adaptive Fitness Specialist.
I know firsthand how it feels to be lost, overwhelmed, and unsure where to start. That’s exactly why I created Your Goal Fitness—to be the trusted resource I wish I had when I started my journey.
